Persian carpets weave the stories of generations in Ras Al Khaimah

Ras Al Khaimah, an Emirate rich in history, arts and culture, will soon welcome a new attraction.

A collection of over 3,000 hand-woven  Persian carpets, some dating back to the 17th century, will be on display in a new location in the Emirate. These carpets are a stunning example of Persian craftsmanship and offer visitors a chance to see and learn about a rich artistic tradition and centuries-old legacy.

A Legacy in Persian Craftsmanship

Ghanbarinia Heritage Carpets, a family business started in 1841, will open a new showroom in Ras Al Khaimah. The company recently offered a preview of their collection at an event hosted by the  Waldorf Astoria Hotel. “These aren’t just carpets. They are stories woven through time, showing the beauty of Persian art and culture,” said Dr. Afshin Ghanbarinia, Vice-Chairman of the company, in an interview with Khaleej Times

Symbolism and Sustainability

The designs on the carpets include symbols like the Shahabasi flower, which represents new beginnings, and central medallions that stand for life and balance. Made with natural fibres and plant-based dyes, these luxury handmade carpets are not only beautiful but crafted using eco-friendly methods.

Royal Patronage and Global Recognition

The Ghanbarinia brand has flourished with support from the UAE’s royal families. Walter Hahn, a seasoned collector, highlighted the cultural and spiritual depth of these carpets, noting their million-knot intricacies as mesmerizing examples of artistic craftsmanship.

Enhancing Ras Al Khaimah’s Cultural Landscape

The new showroom will provide a glimpse into the timeless world of Persian art, enriching Ras Al Khaimah’s cultural landscape and enhancing its global reputation as a destination for living, working and exploring.
