Are you ready to hit the wonderful roads of Ras Al Khaimah but need to secure your driving license first? Look no further because we’re here to guide you.
Before you begin, note that all new drivers (both citizens and residents) can apply to registered driving institutes. You’ll need to attend driving training classes and pass all tests before you are granted a license. You must also be above the legal age (depending on the type of vehicle) and medically fit.
At what age are individuals permitted to drive in Ras Al Khaimah?
- 17 years for motorcycles and vehicles for people with special needs
- 18 years for cars and light vehicles
- 20 years for heavy vehicles and tractors
- 21 years for buses

- Copy of passport and residence visa page
- Copy and original Emirates ID card

- Eye test report

If you’re already a driver and need to convert your license for Ras Al Khaimah, you can do this through the Ministry of Interior website.
This service is available to licenses issued in: GCC countries, Lithuania, Portugal, Hungary, Bulgaria, Latvia, Serbia, Luxembourg, Estonia, Cyprus, Slovakia, Slovenia, Albania, Romania, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Poland, Finland, Spain, the Netherlands, Greece, Sweden, Belgium, Ireland, Turkey, Denmark, Austria, France, UK, Norway, Montenegro, Ukraine, Canada, US, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, China, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and South Africa.
Applicants need to submit a legal translation of their foreign driving license and their Emirates ID and take an eye test before logging onto the Ministry website for the service.
After paying Dh600, customers must approach the Emirate’s traffic licensing department and present the receipt to receive their UAE license.

How much does it cost?
The cost for a light vehicle driving license in Ras Al Khaimah is AED200.
This doesn’t account for the cost of driving tests and lessons required, which generally range from AED3,000 to AED5,000.
