4 spots to explore Ras Al Khaimah’s rich heritage

Heritage

With a history dating back some 7,000 years, Ras Al Khaimah is one of the longest-settled places on Earth. Embracing its rich heritage and culture, the Emirate offers a multitude of opportunities to delve into its past.

So, if you want to uncover more about the Emirate’s heritage, these 4 places need to be added to your to-do list.

AL Qassimi Palace

The ‘haunted’ Al Qassimi Palace

Originally constructed in 1985 by the late His Highness Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Humaid Al Qasimi, a member of the Sharjah ruling family, the palace served as the residence of the Ruling families for years. The palace, however, was left unoccupied after rumors spread of occupants leaving due to ‘mysterious’ occurrences. Today, it’s been transformed into a museum, welcoming the public to explore the fascinating 35-room building and its expansive grounds.

Reported to have cost in excess of AED 500 million to build, visitors can explore the palace’s traditional architecture, beautiful decor, and gardens. It’s considered a must-see attraction for those interested in history and culture, as well as those looking for a different adventure.

Tickets can be purchased at the palace gate, and the cost for individual tickets is AED 75 (per person), and group tickets are AED 50 (per person). The palace is open Sunday–Thursday, from 9 am – 7 pm, on Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum Road, Al Dhait North.

Pearl Farm

Suwaidi Pearls

RAK boasts a remarkable pearl fishing legacy that spans over 7 millennia, and even today, this treasured tradition remains an integral part of the UAE’s heritage. Once a thriving industry, RAK’s pearl trade turned it into one of the busiest trading ports in the region.

In honor of his late grandfather and to celebrate the history of pearl fishing, Abdulla Al Suqaidi established the Suwaidi Pearls’ farm. Visitors to this unique farm will embark on a traditional pearl fishing boat, immersing themselves in the time-honored practice. The experience then continues with an exploration of the modern-day scientific techniques employed in pearl farming, all while discovering the Suwaidi Pearls’ farm located on a floating pontoon.

Suwaidi Pearls’ farm takes pride in its environmentally friendly approach to preserving the marine ecosystem. The farm’s ambiance is simple, authentic, and powered by solar panels
